Ah, there it is...

The joy and excitement of the first day of school came for me, on Tuesday. I was worried that I had lost my zest for teaching yesterday. I didn't stay up all night the night before the first day of school. I didn't even pick out what I was wearing for the first day. I came in "on time," not early, for the first morning. I thought it might be me being pregnant and all, but I remembered I was even further along last year than this year. I couldn't quite put my finger on the reason why I wasn't excited....but, today it came during Kindergarten. All morning I used a specific analogy to explain WHY I didn't want kids to RUSH through their artwork. I began with asking them a question. "If I made you brownies, how would you rather have them made? In the oven or the microwave?" Everyone said oven. Then I went on to explain that when we make artwork, we don't want to be MICROWAVE artists, we want to be OVEN artists and take our time and do a good job...

I saw the "Snowflake" today.

I saw my 3rd baby today for the very first time today. Even though (s)he looks like a little jellybean with a heartbeat, it was beautiful and exciting all the same. Brian came with me, as he did for both the girls' official "film debut." He's such a good Daddy. The official due date is December 29. That makes me exactly 8 weeks today. Because I have to have another c-section, they'll take the baby early, right before Christmas. I think it's an amazing time to have a little baby. Especially when its a time to remember that Jesus was a little baby once. No one expected Him to come like He did, but he came to save the world anyway. And "Snowflake" is kinda the same way. No one, least of all me, expected this arrival. But, God knows what He is doing. I just have to remember that. I know snowflake is a silly name. It hardly ever snows at Christmas in Houston. But, maybe it will this year, who knows!? I have come to expect the unexpected!

A Friday of Highs and Lows

Friday was crazy emotional for me. I have been trying so hard to "get it back together" like I had it before Ainslie was born. You know, get ready in the morning AND be on time after getting everyone else ready to go, and possibly be fully dressed with hair and make up when I get to school. It happens like MAYBE every 2 weeks or so for me.... I thought I was doing so good Friday. I had myself done, my stuff done -- my kids dropped off in time for me to actually be at work on time -- and then I got to school and realized I had forgotten my bottles to pump my milk. UGH! I don't know why, but I went into total melt down in my office and started crying -- not long enough to get it all out, but apparently long enough to make my face look screwed up and be called over the PA system to come help figure out a MORNING VIDEO ANNOUNCEMENT EMERGENGY in the front of the school building. The rest of my day followed suit. One of my favorite kids who is recovering from luekeimia receive...
